Public Holidays are usually “work-free” day for public servants and students. In Nigeria, the Ministry of Interior is charged with responsibility of announcing public holidays as and when due. The Ministry is currently headed by Rauf Aregbesola. It is worthy of note that whenever an holiday falls on a weekend, the following week day is usually declared holiday.
Public Holidays are usually held to promote National Consciousness as in the Democracy and Independence day, or to mark religious observances like the Eid al-Fitr and Christmas festival.
