Here’s a list of ongoing essay contests in Nigeria. Note that we are trying our best to constantly update this list.

1. CIPM 2023 ANNUAL ESSAY COMPETITION

Submission Deadline: September 29, 2023

Topic: “The ‘Japa’ Syndrome and it’s Effects on National Economy: The Way Forward.”

Open to: Only Undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions can participate.

Prizes: Winner: N125 000 & 2 HRM books. 2nd Prize : N100 000 & 2 HRM books. #rd Prize: N75 000 & 2 HRM books.

Submission: Submit essay write-up as single Microsoft Word document to essaycompetition@cipmnigeria.org. Note that you’re to submit alongside your student ID card, admission letter, a recent passport photograph, current phone number and email address.

2. 2023 AFRICAN LIBERTY ESSAY CONTEST

Submission Date: September 1 – October 31

Topic: “Pathways to Protecting Free Speech in Africa: Opportunities for New Approaches to an Old Problem.” 800 Words max.

Open to: individuals of African descent/nationality enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program at any accredited university anywhere in the world

Prizes: Winner: $500 cash prize. First runner-up: $300 cash prize. Second runner-up: $200 cash price. Third and Fourth runners-up: $100 each.

3. ENERGY GRID ESSAY COMPETITION

Submission Deadline: 20th September 2023

Topic: “Nigeria’s Energy Transition: a roadmap for success.”

Open to: Enrolled undergraduate student in Nigerian universities.

Formatting: 1400 words.Times New Romans. 12pt font size and double line spacing. References must be in footnotes following OSCOLA format.

Prizes: 25k, 15k and 10k cash prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

4. THE 234 HOPE SCHOLARSHIP

Submission Deadline: 30th September, 2023

Open to: University of Port-Harcourt students.

Prizes: N50,000 for top 2 students

Submission Date: 31st October, 2023

Topic: Submit a 500-word essay on how you’ve previously exemplified an act of service.

Open to: Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

Prizes: top 3 entries will be rewarded with: N50,000

6. 2nd ANNUAL BESUMSA ESSAY CONTEST

Submission Date: 4th August – 1st September, 2023

Eligibility: Open to all students of MBBS and Medical Laboratory Sciences

Topic: Malaria kills a child every 45 seconds. What can the Malaria vaccines do about this?

Prizes: 1st prize – N20,000; 2nd prize – N10,000; 3rd prize – N5,000.

Submission: besumsaessay@gmail.com. All entries must be in Ms Word format, Times New Roman font, 12 pt, double spaced and must not exceed 1000 words.
