The National Pledge of Nigeria Lyrics
The Nigerian National Pledge is often recited immediately following the National Anthem. While you recite, you must place an open palm on your chest. The pledge is one of the most recognised symbols of National importance in Nigeria.
WHO WROTE THE NATIONAL PLEDGE?
The national pledge was written by Felicia Adebola Adeyoyin in 1976. She initially wrote and published in the 1976 July edition of Daily times titled “Loyalty to the Nation, Pledge.” After it was published, the then Head of State in person of Olusegun Obasanjo, eventually read it, after which he among others decided to adopt it
The publication underwent modifications by Olusegun Obasanjo which led to its adoption. The National Pledge was officially adopted on September 6, 1976, during the launch of the Universal Free Primary Education (UPE) program.
